Let's Analyse an Artwork | Hokusai | Under the Wave off Kanagawa (Kanagawa oki nami ura)

LET’S ANALYSE ART!

Analysing artworks is a FAB way to build your students’ knowledge and understanding of how art is made. It allows them to consider the process of creating a finished artwork and decisions around colour, subject matter, texture, space, and the focal point.

I use these sheets as learning tools in my own classroom to support teaching and discussion of a particular artwork, as well as developing analysis skills. It is also a great option for a quick relief lesson!

I have included 3 pdf worksheets:

  1. 1 x A4 of the artwork and question prompts for each section. I have included this separately as you may only want to print two to a pair of students or print and keep a set for reuse.

  2. 1 x A4 of the artwork and blank spaces for students to fill in with their own analysis under each title heading - this is paired with the above sheet.

  3. 1 x A3 that includes the question prompts AND the blank student analysis design on one page.

Every teacher has a different approach, so I hope providing these alternative worksheets will cater to the majority of art educators. 🖤

*Your digital download will be delivered to you as a zipped folder - you will need to unzip and read the T&C’s then the PDF template is free for you to use and print.

** This artwork is in the public domain.

Enjoy team!
